GE Helps Power a Growing Turkey

01/03 | Despite an uncertain world economy and much volatility in the nearby European Union, Turkey continues to grow. And a growing economy needs electric power. GE Energy, already a major supplier to Turkey’s power sector, recently announced new deals to supply the equipment for a major new gas-fired power plant in the Erzin District of southern Turkey, along with related services. The gigantic new plant will ultimately generate 900 megawatts, which is a whopping 2.6 percent of Turkey’s entire current electricity requirement.

Brandenburg - Germany’s Leading Star for Renewable Energy

23/02 | The metropolitan region of Brandenburg, surrounding Berlin in north-east Germany, is recognised as one of Germany’s most progressive states in terms of energy and renewable energy. Given that Germany is proactive in terms of renewable energy and on target to meet its 20-20-20 goals, for one region to stand out ahead of others is noteworthy. In 2008 Brandenburg’s regional government implemented ambitious targets with the “Energiestrategie 2020” (Energy Strategy 2020). That year and two years later in 2010, Brandenburg was awarded the “Leitstern” prize, recognising the state as “Germany’s Leading Star for Renewable Energy” for best practice in the field of regional development strategies for renewable energies.

Next generation distilleries – Scotland’s whiskey industry embraces power and heat from waste products

16/02 | Whiskey is one of Scotland’s most iconic exports and one of the country’s most productive industries, second only to oil and gas. Generating annual exports of over £3 billion, the industry is also one of the UK’s top five export manufacturers. Produced in over one hundred distilleries across Scotland, whiskey distilleries directly support 10,000 jobs. These days, Scotch producers are more in demand than ever, largely thanks to emerging markets in Asia and Latin America. Not only does this provide a strong cash flow for the entire industry, it also enables distilleries to invest in their long-term competitiveness and the efficiency of their operations.

Inter regional energy exchange: The French region ‘Centre’

14/02 | Centre is a region of France which is made up of six individual counties: Cher, Eure-et-Loir, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher and Loiret. The region’s proximity to Paris and Ile de France, which are both large consumers of electricity, has greatly influenced its energy mix and led to a unique inter-regional energy exchange between the two regions. Centre also has a wide variety of energy sources, one of which, unbeknownst to many, is oil!
