Turkey has entered the list of top ten European countries for wind power generation after increasing its wind power generation by 36 per cent in 2011. According to the European Wind Energy Association, Turkey's wind power generation capacity reached 1,799 megawatts in 2011. This saw Turkey overtake Ireland to claim the 10th spot. Germany is ranked first in Europe with a total wind power generation of 29,060 megawatts followed by Spain with a wind power generation of 21,674 megawatts.
