Italy faces gas shortage - oil plants ready to support national demand
Italian daily Quotidiano.net reports on the gas supply issues currently affecting Italy as a result of freezing weather and the reduction in the Gazprom Russian supply. Approximately 24,000 home users are now without electricity and heating which has led the government to invoke an emergency plan. With Italy consuming 40% more gas than last year, additional gas supplies have been provided via Algeria, Northern Europe and stock sources while oil plants in Piombino, Livorno, Rovigo and Montalto di Castro are also ready to contribute to the supply. Paolo Scaroni, CEO of ENI, notes that by being able to run these plants in time it is likely that enterprise won’t suffer machine stoppages.
