Europe, new promised land of smart grids?

After the United States, and not forgetting the substantial Chinese energy market, the EU is emerging as the new promised land for smart meters, according to the study "Smart Grid in Europe 2016". The study was conducted by the U.S. site GreenTech Media (GTM). To achieve the target set by Brussels (80% of households with smart meters by 2020), European countries must install 100 million meters by 2016.

The European Commission estimates that 140 billion Euros will be needed in the next decade to upgrade electricity networks, including smart meters, such as the French project, Linky.
